Subversive views: Traces of humans

Subversive views: Traces of humans

Exhibitions and a conference on the notion of subversiveness in video art.

Metz, 2016

Curators : Maxime Le Moing, Elizaveta Shagina et Marina Smorodinova.

As part of the first edition of the ongoing Subversive Film Festival in Metz, Art Inédit created a parallel program including a series of exhibitions and a conversation on subversiveness in video art. The tour featured screenings of both established and emerging video artists in about 10 different galleries and art spaces across the city.

This project shed light on the hybridation between video art and cinema. Subversive movies, as video art, unsettle the viewer and shake its habits of “watching” moving images. Video art as a medium highlights the subjectiveness of the artist and questions the mechanism of traditional cinema.

The performance-conference by David Legrand took place at ESAL (École Supérieure d'Art de Lorraine) and shed light on the crossing between video art and cinema. David Legrand is a video artist, dialog writer, actor and co-founder of Galerie du Cartable.
